Visiting a Dhaba (local restaurant or wayside kiosk) tucked away on the highways of India, is always a joy beyond a delicious meal for me. Probably a Dhaba is the only place were you rub shoulders with a truck driver, industrialist to a celebrity. It's much more than taste involved here, it is an extension of home made food for many Indians. Affordable food at the same great taste is the USP here.
Tandoori Chicken is usually cooked in Hotels and Dhabas in a Tandoor oven, which are made of clay which heats upto 900 degrees F. This Tandoor oven creates a very special and unique flavour, which is attributed to the juices and fat that melt and fall from the Chicken into the hot burning charcoal, which imparts this delicious smoky flavour. As a Tandoor is not feasible in home, we could probably try it out in a Charcoal Barbecue.
Chicken is a great favourite for most of us, but depending upon how it is cooked, you could probably end up with loads of calories. When it comes to Tandoori Chicken, 1 portion of Chicken = 214 calories, therefore make sure when you prepare your Chicken for Tandoori, remove the entire skin and any visible fat, plus the cooking in extreme conditions melts the remaining fat out, make it a healthy option. To sum-up it is a low-fat, low-calorie, high-protein meal for dieters.
